Early Years Messy Play

Our 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 have been fully immersed in hands-on learning through mud kitchen imaginary play, mixing, pouring, building, and imagining together outdoors.

𝐌𝐮𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬
✅Sensory development: children explore different textures, temperatures, and consistencies, helping the brain make sense of the world
✅Creativity and imagination: open-ended materials encourage storytelling, role play, and problem-solving
✅Social interaction: children collaborate, share ideas, negotiate roles, and communicate naturally
✅Fine motor skills: scooping, stirring, pouring, and moulding strengthen hand and finger control
✅Confidence building: children take safe risks, make choices, and see their ideas come to life
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬:
Playing with mud and natural materials provides children with a wide range of beneficial microbes, which can help support and strengthen the immune system. Outdoor messy play also promotes physical movement, reduces stress, and supports emotional regulation and overall wellbeing.
By engaging with nature-based play, children develop resilience, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the environment in a safe and stimulating way.
At PBIS, we value experiential learning, where curiosity leads the way and meaningful learning happens through play.
